The Future of Virtual Worlds

When I grew up "The Russian" waited heavily armed at our borders, prepared to kill us all. And now the better part of my life happens in cyberspace, and one of my best friends is from Russia. And if there is ONE thing that will prevent wars, it is actually the global, social interaction on the internet.

there is no doubt about the power of putting a recognizable, and even loved face at the end of your fist, your gun, or your missile -- it completely changes your perspective. I think you might be on to something, Peter. I think that perhaps virtual relationship can slip through cracks and over barriers that other ways of interacting can't overcome. I know I already see the world with new eyes in the fairly short time I've been in SL, and am a much better person for it.

Bravo! Very true - however, people must also be open to having their preconceptions challenged and changed. We assume people in a virtual world have open minds ... unfortunately that is not always the case. However, I have hope. :)
